The Impact of Work / Life Being out of Balance
Is your working taking over your personal life? Do you find yourself taking calls and answering emails during times with family and friends?
The idea that we can achieve a perfect work life balance, I believe is a bit of a myth, there will be times in life when work is busy and working overtime is required, however, when that starts to become the norm and you find yourself spending less time on the activities you want to do, I would argue, its time for an appraisal of your life to find out why work is taking over.
This was the topic for discussion on the ‘Winter Wellness’ feature with Kaye Adams on BBC Radio Scotland. With many people starting to return to the workplace after working from home for the last two years, it will be interesting to see what impact this will have. My concern is that hybrid working will mean there are no longer boundaries between work and homelife and we create a culture and expectation of always being available.
To be productive in our working lives, we need to have rest and relaxation, if our minds are never switching off from work, it’s going to lead to stress and resentment. Now that we carry our work emails on our mobiles, we have created a 24/7 switched on society.
If you feel your work and personal life is out of balance, tune in to hear some tips and techniques to get it back into balance.
